Although its no huge city in Canada, Edmonton is an awesome place to live! With a lil' help of friends, plenty of scandalous situations arise in this quiet city!

Chi, Fura and Laundry

Ciao Tutti!
well it has been over a month since I moved here.
Needless to say, everyday is still an adventure.
Now, I dont get sooo lost, just about once a week.

New pics will be added soon after our Florence trip this weekend

CHI (pronounced CHEE) dilemna
my flat iron. my beloved flat iron. i have searched all of Brescia to find a converter for it. and finally, i think i have found one but noooo, it heats up way too much. So thanks to Pooj, she calls the salon where we bought them, and they her - and she tells me - all via msn- there is no converter! what!??? curly hair for 8 months. sweet mother of pearl. i am still in shock. i know!

This past weekend, Helen (England) and I (both teachers at InLingua) were taken out by students. Here in Brescia, there are no big discoteques. I say discoteques because if you say club, it means were all the prostitutes and tranvestites hang out...nojoke. I have learnt the hard way as I ask 'wanna hit up a club on friday night?'. then i remember, and i yell - no i mean, disco, disco!
Anywho, the place, FURA. Unbelievable. It was half inside and half outside. Very posh and lots of different types of music. They even threw in a lil' Celia Cruz, but of course, i was wearing new shoes that i couldnt walk in after about 20minutes. I watched Italians get down to none other than La vida es un carnaval and la negra tiene tumbao! Priceless!
Helen and I both forgot our cameras that night, but no worries we are harrasing our students send them to us. soon enough they will be posted.

Laundry experience:
I finally had to do some laundry - just to give you an indication as to how much clothing I brought, it was week 3 before i needed to hit up the washer and dryer.
So, in our building we have no washer and dryer. We have to go to the Lavararia (or something like that). I know where it was, so I packed my bags, took my detergent and fabric softner (which i never use back in CA) and proceeded to attempt to do laundry.
I walk in, and the machines, I kid you not, are from the 18th Century! And all the instructions in Italian. Now, in walks in this guy and he sees my Canadian backpack and he busts out the french! Let me tell you, how grateful I am to speak more than one language. he expalined to me the procedure. I threw my clothes in and said a lil' prayer hoping my clothes wouldnt come out all one color or all too small!
And I did it! Did laundry at some laundramat from a previous century, all by myself! woot woot!
Holiday season is coming up. Don't have definate plans, but we are thinking with one of my roomates to visit Ms. L'Heureux in Amsterdam.
Anyone else in Europe up for some company? just let us know!
until next time.
hugs,
alma
